Time Line
Due 7 March 2005
All students will prepare a timeline of the period 1450--2000.
- It should be graphical, in one of the following sizes:
- standard poster board (28" by 22")
- 22" by 17" (4 sheets of 8.5" by 11" paper, neatly taped together, in a 2 by 2 rectangle)
- 8.5" by 33" to 44" (3 or 4 sheets of 8.5" by 11" paper, neatly taped together, end to end)
- any suitable alternative size (check with Mr. Cell)
- It will show musical periods:
- The Renaissance Period (1450-1600)
- The Baroque Period (1600-1750)
- The Classical Period (1750-1825)
- The Romantic Period (1825-1900)
- The 20th Century (1900-2000)
- It will show significant events in music history:
- The Council of Trent (1545-1563)
- The reign of Pope Marcellus II (1555)
- The reign of Pope Pius V (1566-1572)
- Invention of the Piano
- Invention of the Saxophone
- Invention of the Sousaphone
- It will show lifespans of composers:
- Josquin Desprez (1440-1521)
- Giovanni Palestrina (1525-1594)
- Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
- J.S. Bach (1685-1750)
- G.F. Handel (1685-1789)

- It will show the year of writing and/or premier of at least one work for at least eighteen composers of your choosing.
- For instance - Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, was composed from 1804-1808; first performed in Vienna, 22 December 1808, conducted by Beethoven; published in 1809
- Or - Beethoven's 5th Symphony - 1808
- It will show the year of writing and/or premier of at least two works for at least six composers of your choosing.
- It will show the year of writing and/or premier of at least four works for at least two composers of your choosing.
- It will show at least one additional historical event per half century.
- For instance - Columbus' first sailing to the New World - 1492
- It will show at least one additional lifespan per half century of a person famous for something scientific.
- For instance - Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)
- It will show at least one additional lifespan per half century of a person famous for something social or political.
- For instance - Martin Luther (1483-1546)
